Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (SAT-SDSD)

Scope

This Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/6, Table A-VI/6-1 and Table A-VI/6-2 of the STCW Code.

This requires a total of eight (8) hours instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.

Training Outcomes

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/6 of the STCW Code, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences on Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties.

Specifically, at the end of the course, the trainee must:  

Table A-VI/6-1: Security Awareness
  • contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness;
  • recognize of security threats; and
  • Understand the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance.
Table A-VI/6-2: Seafarers with Designated Security Duties
  • maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan;
  • recognize of security risk and threats;
  • undertake regular security inspections of the ship; and
  • Use of security equipment and systems properly.
