Basic Training (BT)

Elementary First Aid (BT-EFA)

Scope 

 This Elementary First Aid course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code. 

 This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.  

Training Outcomes

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competence in Elementary First Aid.

Specifically, at the end of the course, the trainee must be able to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency.

Fire Prevention and Firefighting (BT-FPFF)

Scope 

This Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code. 

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.  

Training Outcomes 

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences on Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainees must be able to: 
  • minimize the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire; and 
  • fight and extinguish fire

Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (BT-PSSR)

Scope 

 This Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code. 

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.  

Training Outcome 

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all seafarers assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences on Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainee must be able to:  
  • comply with emergency procedures; 
  • take precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment; 
  • observe safe working practices; 
  • understand orders and be understood in relation to shipboard duties; and 
  • contribute to effective human relationships on board ship

Personal Survival Technique (BT-PST)

Scope

This Personal Survival Techniques course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code.

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.

Training Outcomes

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competence on Personal Survival Techniques.
 
Specifically, at the end of the course the trainees must be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment.
